- Pedigreed cats – cats whose purebred ancestry are recorded in recognized international registries.
- Non-pedigreed cats – cats exhibiting the characteristics of a recognized breed but do not have advisable documentation to establish purebred ancestry (instance: outcrossed cats, provisional cats, unrecognized breeds).
- Household pets – any domestic cat.
